PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body skeleton member capable of controlling the deformation mode of a shock absorbing portion during the time of axial compression more suitably.SOLUTION: A front side member, as a vehicle body skeleton member, has a rectangular tubular shock-absorbing portion 14 constituted by four side walls. On the upper side wall 10 and the lower side wall 11 of the shock absorbing portion 14, the three convex portions consisting of a first convex portion 15, a second convex portion 16, and a third convex portion 17, which project in a radial direction of the shock absorbing portion 14, having a direction perpendicular to the tube axis L of the shock absorbing portion 14 in the upper side wall 10 and lower side wall 11 as a longitudinal direction, are provided to be aligned in the tube-axial direction. Of these three convex portions, the second convex portion 16 provided at even-numbered positions counted from the end of the shock absorbing portion has a larger projection amount than the first convex portion 15 and the third convex portion 17 provided at odd-numbered positions.

    【課題】軸圧縮時の衝撃吸収部の変形モードをより好適にコントロールすることのできる車体骨格部材を提供する。【解決手段】車体骨格部材であるフロントサイドメンバーは、その車体前方の部分に、4つの側壁により構成された四角管状の衝撃吸収部14を有する。衝撃吸収部14の上側壁10および下側壁11には、衝撃吸収部14の径方向に突出され、かつそれら上側壁10および下側壁11における衝撃吸収部14の管軸Lと直交する方向を長手方向とする第1凸部15、第2凸部16および第3凸部17の3つの凸部が管軸方向に並んで設けられる。これら3つの凸部のうち、衝撃吸収部の端から数えて偶数番目に設けられた第2凸部16は、奇数番目に設けられた第1凸部15および第3凸部17よりも、その突出量が大きくされている。【選択図】図1
