PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack pinion type steering device which inhibits axial backlash of a pinion shaft over a long period and thereby inhibits abnormal noise from being caused by separation between a rack and a pinion.SOLUTION: A rack pinion type steering device 1 includes: a first rolling bearing 14 which supports one side of a pinion 2a of a pinion shaft 2, which is located at the steering shaft side, so that the one side of the pinion 2a may rotate relative to a housing 4; a second rolling bearing 15 which supports the other side of the pinion 2a of the pinion shaft 2 so that the other side of the pinion 2a may rotate relative to the housing 4; and a top plug 27 formed into a cylindrical shape and attached to the housing 4, the top plug 27 including a first end surface 28, which fixes an outer ring 18 of the first rolling bearing 14 to the housing 4 from the steering shaft side, and a second end surface 31 provided at the inner diameter side with regard to the first end surface 28. A thrust bearing 22 is disposed between the second end surface 31 of the top plug 27 and an inner ring 17 of the first rolling bearing 14.

    【課題】長期に亘りピニオン軸の軸方向のガタツキを抑制し、ラックとピニオンの離間による異音の発生を抑制することができるラックピニオン式ステアリング装置を提供する。【解決手段】ラックピニオン式ステアリング装置1において、ピニオン軸2のピニオン2aのステアリングシャフト側である一方側をハウジング4に対して回転自在に支持する第1転がり軸受14と、ピニオン軸2のピニオン2aの他方側をハウジング4に対して回転自在に支持する第2転がり軸受15と、円筒状に形成されて、ハウジング4に取り付けられ、第1転がり軸受14の外輪18をステアリングシャフト側からハウジング4に固定する第1端面28と、第1端面28より内径側に設けられた第2端面31とを有するトッププラグ27とを備え、トッププラグ27の第2端面31と第1転がり軸受14の内輪17との間にスラスト軸受22が配置される。【選択図】図1
