The method comprises obtaining route information indicative of a predicted route of the electric vehicle 402, predicting a future operating profile for the electric vehicle based on the route information 404, predicting, for at least one component of a plurality of components of the electric vehicle, a thermal energy transfer requirement for the component based on the future operating profile 406, selecting an operating mode of the thermal management system based on the predicted thermal energy transfer requirement for the at least one component 408, and outputting a signal indicative of the selected operating mode 410. A control system, computer readable instructions, a computer readable medium and a vehicle are also claimed.
