A vehicle for public passenger transport, in particular a railway vehicle, is provided with crew-passenger communication which entails receiving, on a mobile device, a signal (in particular a notification) when a passenger communication device of the vehicle is operated and/or has been operated. A data connection is then established between the mobile device and the passenger communication device wherein at least a part of the data connection is a VoIP data connection. A further aspect of the invention provides a wireless interface provided by the vehicle and connected to a local area network of the vehicle wherein the mobile device is connectable to the local area network via the wireless interface. The data connection may be a VoIP data connection between the mobile device and audio system of the vehicle. An analog data connection may exist between the audio system and the passenger communication device. The VoIP data connection may use real-time transport protocol (RTP) for exchanging voice messages. Analog digital conversion may be used to convert the analog audio signal to/from RTP packets.
