A device 10 is for checking integrity of a train comprising wagons having air brakes operable by a pressure difference between a brake pipe 18 and a main reservoir pipe 22. The device comprises a spring-biased one-way valve, comprising an air path 12 between ends 16, 20 for connection with such pipes. A closure element 14 is spring-loaded into a closed position (blocking the air path) and is arranged such that pressure in the main reservoir pipe which exceeds that in the brake pipe urges the closure element to its closed position whilst the converse urges it to its open position providing an air path 24 from the brake pipe to the main reservoir pipe. In use, brake pipes and main reservoir pipes of a locomotive and wagons are joined, and the device attached between the pipes of the rearmost wagon. A higher air pressure is applied to the brake pipe than to the main reservoir pipe, urging the closure element to its open position. Detection of a resultant increase in air pressure in the main reservoir pipe validates train integrity.
