Autonomous transportation network 10 comprises a control management centre 200 and multi-featured autonomous vehicles 20. The management centre selects (Fig.2,S150) permissible routes 50PER from an origin 30 to a destination 35 for the vehicles; calculates (Fig.2,S180) predicted positions 100 indicative of part of a route 50 travelled by the vehicles at a future time; predicts (Fig.2,S170) vehicle conflicts 60; and generates conflict avoidance instructions 50AVD, which it transmits to the vehicles, e.g. using infrastructure elements 80. The vehicles may use the instructions and a structure model 75 to calculate corrected route instructions 50COR and thus adjust their route. The route may be selected by comparing a vehicle dimension 15DIM and dynamics 15DYN to permissible dimensions 10DIM and dynamics 10DYN of a road 55. By using the same structure model, the vehicles and the control centre will select identical routes between an origin and destination and the control centre can predict vehicle behaviour without needing to communicate.
