A cryogenic system for use in an aircraft prime mover system of an aircraft with a distributed propulsion system, the cryogenic system comprising a cryogen container 320 for storing the cryogen. The cryogen may be arranged to provide a heat exchanger function, or a de-humidifier function. The aircraft prime mover system may comprise an element, such as a superconducting arrangement, an engine bearing, or a conduit, which is in fluid communication with the cryogen container and the system is configured to allow the cryogen to come into thermal contact with the element. The system may further comprise a power unit for generating electricity 142, wherein the cryogen is in fluid communication with the unit. The system may incorporate a cryocooler 143 arranged to condense vaporised cryogen. The cryogen may be liquid hydrogen, liquid helium, liquid methane or liquid natural gas.
