An inductive wireless charging system for a plurality of automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) 353 includes: a plurality of power transmitter coils (charging coils) 355 coupled to a power supply; and an AGV control system that directs each of the AGVs to adopt a position relative to at least one of the charging coils. Each AGV has: a plurality of wheels coupled to a frame; a battery; and a first receiver coil 149 on a lower portion of the frame. The receiver coil receives electromagnetic (EM) waves from the charging coils and converts the waves into electrical power for charging the batteries. The charging coils may be adjacent to each other and on a raised surface, wherein the receiver coil receives EM waves from the charging coil(s) when at least part of the AGV is located over at least part of the charging coil(s). In one embodiment, the AGV may have two wheels and may be gyrostabilized. Each AGV may include a second receiver coil coupled to the first receiver coil in series or in parallel; the two receiver coils positioned in either a longitudinal or transverse configuration on the AGV. The AGVs may be multi-wheeled controlled robot vehicles controlled to move throughout a facility (e.g. factory).
