An epicyclic gearbox 10 comprising an input annulus gear 12, in contact with the power source, is in meshing contact with a number of stepped planet gears 14, 16 supported on floating planet carriers 18. Each stepped planet gear is positioned internally of the annulus gear and includes two planet stages in meshing contact with corresponding sun gear stages 20, 22. One of the sun gear stages is an interior gearbox output and transfers power to a machine or device to be driven and the other sun gear stage is fixed.
