The invention relates to a high power epicyclic gearbox and operation thereof. A gas turbine engine for an aircraft is provided, comprising: an engine core comprising a turbine, a compressor, and a mandrel connecting the turbine to the compressor; a fan upstream of the engine core and including a plurality of fan blades; and a gearbox receiving input from the gearbox input shaft portion of the mandrel and outputting drive to the fan shaft to drive the fan at a lower rotational speed than the mandrel, the gearbox being an epicyclic gearbox, a planetary gear train includes a sun gear, a plurality of planetary gears, a ring gear, and a planet carrier arranged to have a plurality of planetary gears mounted thereon, and wherein the sun gear receives an input from a mandrel. In a cruise condition, the torque on the mandrel is greater than 10,000 Nm. In cruise conditions, the ratio of mandrel stiffness to mandrel torque is within a specified range. A method of operating such an engine is also disclosed.
