The vehicle system comprises a base, a seat rotatably disposed on the base, a sensor programmed to measure an angular displacement of the seat and outputting a displacement signal and a processor which receives the signal and selects one passive safety device based in part on the angular displacement signal. Also claimed is a system where the selection of the safety device uses additionally a collision mode signal representing an impact angle and a virtual zone representing the area of a host vehicle involved in a collision. Also claimed is a system where the angular displacement signal is associated with one of a number of virtual zones and a safety device is chosen based on the virtual zone associated with the angular displacement.
