The vehicle system comprises a base, a driver seat rotatable on the base, a sensor programmed to measure the rotational displacement of the seat and output a signal. A processor is programmed to receive the signal and selects at least one out of a number of passive safety devices, such as air bags, based on the angular displacement, an impact zone and a predicted impact angle and only deploy the selected device(s) during a collision. Also claimed is a system where the processor also receives a signal confirming an area of a host vehicle involved in a collision when determining the selected passive safety device(s). Also claimed is a device system where the displacement signal is relevant to one of a number of virtual zones and the deployment of the safety device is dependent on the virtual safety zone.
