An apparatus 200b and method is disclosed for detecting sensor error, in a system measuring e.g. angle of rotation in, for example, a power steering system. Two channels comprising respective magnetic sensing elements 102a-b, for instance anisotropic magneto-resistance (AMR) sensors, are fed into a third channel (shown but not labelled), in addition to all three channels being fed into processor 210, which computes expected third channel data, detecting sensor error based at least partly on a comparison of expected with actual third channel data. The sensing elements may be oriented at different respective non-zero angles with the first such angle possibly 45 degrees. The angle may be computed using an arctan function and channels may further comprise amplifiers A1-A3 and sampling circuits S1-S3. Each sensing element of the first and second channels may comprise a full bridge circuit, outputs being given from half-bridges of the respective full bridge circuits.
