An elevating deck provides an additional storage surface in the interior of a vehicle.  The movable deck 24 is supported between a pair of struts 14, each of which is connected through a parallelogram linkage 20, 22 to a respective upright post 4, whereby the platform 24 is kept horizontal as it moves with the linkage. A pair of extendable actuators 34 connected between a fixed frame 2 and arms 20 of the respective parallel linkages drive movement of the deck 24 between a lowered position and a raised position. The configuration of the linkage minimizes the horizontal displacement of the deck 24 at positions intermediate between the lowered and raised position, which is desirable in the application of transporting cadavers during funerals. Electrical coupling and control of the actuators 34 aids in the maintenance of stability of the surface 24.
