A driveline component includes an input member 52, a differential case (70 see fig 2), a differential gearset (72 see fig 2) housed in the differential case (70), a first clutch mechanism 58 and a second clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanisms 58,60 are configured to selectively transmit rotary power between the input member 52 and the differential case (70). The first clutch (90 see fig 2) has an engagement time and that is less than that of the second clutch (150 see fig 2). The invention is typically for a vehicle switchable between two and four wheel drive and is capable of handling high torques, combined with the advantage that one of the clutch mechanisms 58 has a relatively short engagement time. The invention is alternatively defined in terms which include the clutches (90,150) having different drag torques. The second clutch (150) typically has a greater capacity than that of the first (90).
