A method of calibrating a vehicle interior sensor (122, 124) comprising installing in the interior (102) of the vehicle (100) a temporary reference device (130), the temporary reference device (130) being a stand-alone device and comprising a reference feature (134, 142) detectable by the vehicle interior sensor (122, 124). The temporary reference device (130) is arranged to be installed by interfacing with a part of the vehicle interior (114) to locate the temporary reference device (130), and thereby locating the reference feature (134, 142) at a known position within the interior (102) of the vehicle (100). The method further comprises using the vehicle interior sensor (122, 124) to acquire sensed data indicative of the position of the reference feature (134, 142) according to the vehicle interior sensor (122, 124). Still further, the method comprises calibrating the vehicle interior sensor (122, 124) in accordance with any discrepancy between the known position of the reference feature (134, 142) and the position of the reference feature (134, 142) indicated by the sensed data.
