A system for assisting the driver of an at least semi-autonomous host vehicle 100. The system comprises an environment sensing means configured to obtain data relating to the environment 60 proximate to the host vehicle 100, a communication means and a control means coupled to the sensing and communication means. The control means is configured to initiate the communication of data required for autonomous driving with a second vehicle 102 and to initiate at least semi-autonomous driving of the host vehicle 100 to a manoeuver location 62 in dependence on the environment and autonomous driving data. The system may assist in the scenario of two cars meeting on a narrow section of road 58, where one of the cars will need to manoeuver to a passing point 62. The system may determine the cost of multiple manoeuver locations and make a selection of one in dependence on said cost.
