The invention relates to a compressed air generation device (2) with an open-loop and closed-loop control unit (28), with an electric motor (24) which can be open-loop and closed-loop controlled by the open-loop and closed-loop control unit (28), with at least one air compressor (16; 18) which can be driven by the electric motor (24), with an air inlet (8) via which ambient air (L) can be sucked into the at least one air compressor, with at least one air cooler (20; 22) which is connected to the outlet of the at least one air compressor, with at least one air dryer (40) which is connected to the outlet of the at least one air cooler, with a coolant inlet opening (12), via which a liquid coolant can be fed to the at least one air cooler and to further components of the compressed air generation device, with a coolant outlet opening (14), via which heated coolant can be discharged from the compressed air generation device (2), and with at least one temperature sensor (73, 73', 73'') which is connected to the open-loop and closed-loop control unit (28) via a data or sensor line (59). In order to determine that regeneration compressed air volume which has to be conducted through a drying agent (41) of the air dryer (40) for regeneration purposes, it is provided that the temperature sensor for measuring the coolant temperature is arranged upstream of the coolant inlet or downstream of the coolant outlet of that air cooler (22) which is arranged upstream of the air dryer as the last air cooler in the flow direction of the compressed air. The invention also relates to a method for operating such a compressed air generation device.
