The present invention is concerned with an infrastructure-dependent and topography-dependent use of traction-influencing measures, for example dispensing adhesion-increasing medium, or eddy current brakes, on rail vehicles (S). Traction-influencing measures on a rail vehicle (S) or an eddy current brake are controlled in a manner which is dependent on values which by at least one detection device (2, 2') which is adapted to detect properties of a rail vehicle infrastructure (I), the position of the rail vehicle (S) on the rail vehicle infrastructure (I), and/or ambient data. A traction-influencing measure is, for example, outputting adhesion-increasing medium such as, for example, sand, and the outputting thereof can be stopped or reduced, for example, when passing over points.
