At least one maximum threshold of torque setpoint (CC) and of engine torque (CR) at the wheel is determined. When a torque setpoint (CC) at the engine and a braking setpoint (CF) are launched in parallel and the maximum threshold is exceeded, a time count is initiated and, if a maximum predetermined duration of parallel launching of the setpoints with the maximum threshold being exceeded is reached, operation is carried out in a downgraded control mode of the control, with the torque setpoint (CC) being cancelled.
