The present invention relates to a method and a device for controlling a walk-assist function of an electric bicycle, and to an electric bicycle having a walk-assist function of this type. To implement the invention, the electric bicycle has a drive for producing the locomotion or producing propulsion, a speed-sensing unit, and a gear shift mechanism between the drive and the drive wheel. The method, which controls the walk-assist function, first captures a speed variable, which represents the speed of the electric bicycle, by means of the speed-sensing unit. Subsequently, the walk-assist function is controlled in accordance with both the speed variable and the captured or determined transmission ratio between the drive and the drive wheel or rear wheel. The core of the invention is that, after the walk-assist function has been activated, first a variable representing the rotational motion of the drive is captured and the walk-assist is open-loop controlled and/or closed-loop controlled in accordance with the captured rotational motion or the rotational motion variable.
