The invention relates to a method (1) for forecasting the energy requirement of a motor vehicle. Essentially, an artificial functional model (2) is generated and/or trained by means of an artificial intelligence (3), referred to as AI, of a motor vehicle model, and a subsequent step comprises forecasting the energy requirement of a motor vehicle by providing at least one data recorder, arranged on a data bus of the motor vehicle, for capturing bus data (5) communicated via the data bus, wherein the at least one data recorder is used to capture bus data (5), wherein an artificial functional model (2) generated and/or trained beforehand using the method (1) is provided on the motor vehicle and is supplied with the captured bus data (5) of the motor vehicle, wherein the artificial functional model (2) then provides forecast total power requirement data (7) that represent the forecast total power requirement of the motor vehicle or the forecast power requirement of individual components of the motor vehicle.
