The invention relates to a method for monitoring a system comprising a monitoring device and a plurality of devices connected to the monitoring device via a communications network. According to the invention, such a method comprises: - a step of analysing (Ph#1) contents of packets exchanged within the communication network, outputting a data item representative of a behaviour of at least one current device among the plurality of devices, comprising: - a step of obtaining (10), for a current device, a time series representative of the content of data packets received by the monitoring device, for a determined period, referred to as current time series; - a step of calculating (20) a distance (Delta) separating the content of a current packet from the content of a preceding packet within said current time series, outputting a time series of distances; - a step of obtaining (30), by means of said time series of distances, a signature representative of an activity of said current device, referred to as current signature.
