The invention relates to a method for determining an operational reliability factor, in particular of a geared motor of a lifting system. In a first step, a load spectrum and application-related characteristic data of the components being used are provided, and load data for a gear mechanism which drives a cable drum is calculated from the load spectrum and the provided characteristic data in a computer-supported manner; and in a second step, the current operational reliability factor is calculated in response to the calculated load data in a computer-supported manner using an operational reliability module.
