A method for assisting with driving a motor vehicle during reversing is disclosed. The assistance is based on a verification of the fact that the driver is not solely looking at the digital rear-view system. Thus, if it is determined that the visual attention of the driver is solely being given, for a time judged to be too long, to the digital rear-view screen, the digital rear-view screen displays a visual warning, making the driver understand that he must use other sources of information such as direct vision or the exterior rear-view mirrors.
