The invention relates to a charging station (100) for providing electrical energy for an electrically operable vehicle (101) of a user via a charging cable (103), said charging station comprising: a charging connector (105) which is arranged on the charging cable (103), wherein the charging connector (105) can be connected to a charging interface (107) of the electrically operable vehicle (101); a housing (109) in which the charging connector (105) is housed; a communication interface (111), at least part of which is located in the housing (109) and is designed to wirelessly read authorisation information of the user from an information carrier (113); and a processor (115) which is designed to determine, on the basis of the read authorisation information, whether the user is authorised to use the charging station (100).
