The invention relates to a method for actively discharging an input capacitor of a charger of an electric or hybrid vehicle connected to a polyphase power supply network, the charger including, in cascade, the input capacitor, a diode voltage rectifier, a voltage boost converter (ELE), a drive battery being connected at the output of the voltage boost converter (ELE) by means of relays, the method including, when the relays are closed, steps of: detecting (E1) an interruption in the network power supply, commanding (E3) the switches of the voltage boost converter (ELE) to open, the switches being held open until blocking by the diodes of the rectifier, - switching (E4) the switches of the voltage boost converter (ELE) until the voltage level of the capacitor is lower than a predetermined voltage threshold.
