According to the invention, the tread has at least one longitudinal indentation (8), the depth, measured on a new tire, of said at least one longitudinal indentation not being less than 40% of the thickness of the tread, the ratio of the width measured at the bottom of said at least one longitudinal indentation to the width measured at the surface of the tread of said at least one longitudinal indentation being strictly greater than 2, the distance d between the end of the axially narrowest working layer and the working layer separated from the axially narrowest working layer by the layer C of rubber mixture being such that l.lo < d < 2.2o, 0being the diameter of the reinforcement elements of said at least one layer of circumferential reinforcement elements, and in a meridian plane, the thickness of the layer C of rubber mixture being substantially constant along the axial width included between the axially inner end of the layer C and the end of the axially narrowest working layer.
