The invention relates to a method for detecting a change in the behaviour of a driver, which method uses a cybernetic model that is defined by a first measurement vector, by an output vector for estimating an item of the action data or the action data produced by the driver, by a control vector, and by a temporal state vector of the model. The method comprises steps, carried out in real time, of: calculating (130) an optimal current value of an increased state vector at a given moment on the basis of a value previously estimated from the increased state vector and a second measurement vector in relation to the output vector, the increased state vector including at least one component that reproduces a component of the temporal state vector, and at least one component that reproduces a component of the control vector; evaluating (140) a degree of stability (Ck) of at least one current value component of the increased state vector that reproduces the component of the control vector; indicating (150) a change in the behaviour of the driver when the degree of stability (Ck) is indicative of instability.
