An overhead wire wear measurement device and method for determining the remaining diameter of an overhead wire (5) by photographing the lower surface of the overhead wire (5) that is in contact with a pantograph using a line sensor camera (2) disposed on a train roof and carrying out image processing on the photographed image of the lower surface of the overhead wire (5), wherein the remaining diameter of a horizontally worn overhead wire (5 A ), which only has a horizontally worn part (5a), that has the same cross sectional area as an unevenly worn overhead wire (5 AB ), which has a horizontally worn part (5a) and an inclined worn part (5b), is calculated as an equivalent remaining diameter value (H) for the unevenly worn overhead wire.
