In a winder unit (100) for tensioning a cutting wire when operated, wherein the cutting wire is tensioned to cut through adhesive bonding a vehicle window element to a vehicle and said unit has at least one winder spool assembly (102, 103) with a winder spool (104, 105) supported for rotation on a winder unit body (106) for winding up wire thereon or unwinding wire therefrom when rotated and mounts (7A, 7B) for temporary fixing the unit on a window element. In said winder unit a brake mechanism (110, 111) is integrated in each winder spool assembly, with each of said brake mechanisms continuously counteracting rotation of a re- spective winder spool by yieldingly applying an adjustable force to a spool shaft (104 A, 105 A) of said winder spool. A method of removing a vehicle window element by cutting through adhesive is also provided.
