The invention relates to the chassis of a motor vehicle, with at least one component which is composed of a metallic material, absorbs or transmits forces and on the surface of which at least one reinforcing element (5), which is composed of fibre-reinforced plastic, is mounted by thermal joining. In particular, said component (such as an axle bracket 2 or a transversal swinging arm or other component) is provided to be installed with identical geometrical dimensions on types of motor vehicle differing in respect of their weight and/or their propulsive power, wherein, in the event of use in a type of motor vehicle of greater weight and/or higher propulsive power, a reinforcing element (5) is mounted on at least one load-path-forming surface portion of said component, which reinforcing element (5) is either not provided at all or is provided in a smaller size in the case of a different type of motor vehicle of lower weight and/or lower propulsive power.
