A method of selectively charging a battery packs in a battery system of an electric vehicle may include selecting a first battery pack (502) from a plurality of battery packs in the battery system. The method may also include receiving one or more messages from the first battery pack (502). The one or more messages may inlcude indications of a voltage and a current associated with the first battery pack. The method may additionally include determining a charging voltage and a charging current for the first battery pack based at least in part on the voltage and the current associated with the first battery pack. The method may further include causing a battery charging circuit (504) to charge the first battery pack by applying the charging voltage and the charging current to the first battery pack.
