The invention relates to a contact device for a current collector for rail vehicles, wherein the contact device has at least one graphite collector shoe (17) which is arranged for contact with an overhead wire on a collector shoe frame (12) movable towards the overhead wire, wherein the graphite collector shoe is arranged together with a second collector shoe (18) on a collector shoe carrier (13) that is connected in an articulated manner to the collector shoe frame, is constructed as a double lever and is pivotable relative to the collector shoe frame about a pivot axis (14) transverse to the longitudinal direction of the overhead wire in such a manner that, in one operating configuration of the current collector, the graphite collector shoe and the second collector shoe, which are arranged on opposing sides of the pivot axis, are in contact with the overhead wire simultaneously and spaced apart from one another.
