Disclosed is a heavy duty tire exhibiting satisfactory anti-cut resistance and low heat generation property, as well as excellent resistance to crack growth toward inside of the tire. This invention is characterized by a tire side portion (2) containing a rubber composition that includes 0.1 - 30 parts by mass of an orientation material oriented in a circumferential direction of the tire, per 100 parts by mass of a rubber component. The tire side portion (2) has an average thickness (G) of 8 mm - 150 mm.
