The method involves capturing an entry time (ta) of a vehicle (2) at an entrance (4). A unique object identifier (ci) for the vehicle is generated. The entry time is stored under the identifier. A movement of the vehicle continuously referenced by the identifier, is tracked over an entire section (3) using a sensor arrangement (TR). An exit time (tb) of the vehicle referenced by the identifier, is captured at an exit (5). An exit image (Pb) of the vehicle at the exit is captured if a comparison of the captured exit time to the stored entry time indicates a speed that exceeds a threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a device for recording images of vehicles that pass through a section between an entrance and an exit at excessive speed.
