The system has a rotor (16) connected to an electric accumulator (72). A drive shaft (12) is controlled by an electric machine (14) and/or an internal-combustion engine (10) for rotating a motive axle (60) of a vehicle. A rotary speed variation device is located between the drive shaft and an independent drive shaft. The rotary speed variation device is provided with alternate transmission paths (VT1, VT2) for transmitting a rotary motion to the motive axle, where the paths are controlled by disengageable high-speed coupling (30) and a disengageable low-speed coupling (36). An independent claim is also included for a method for displaceably driving a hybrid type motor vehicle.
