The invention relates to a method for controlling a drive device for a motor vehicle operated by means of muscle force, said drive device being designed to transmit the muscle force of a rider from a crankshaft (3) to an output wheel (6) via a superposition transmission (4). The transmission ratio at the superposition transmission (4) can be adjusted by adjusting the rotational speed of the first electric machine (8). Making a continuous determination (S0) whether a rotation of the crankshaft (3) for driving the vehicle is present; if it is determined that there is a rotation of the crankshaft (3) for driving the vehicle, the rotational speed of the first electric machine (8) is adjusted (S1.1) in order to produce a predetermined transmission ratio at the superposition transmission (4). If it is determined that there is no longer a rotation of the crankshaft (3) for driving the vehicle, the rotational speed of the first electric machine (8) is adjusted (S2.1) for at most a predetermined time (T1) in order to maintain the transmission ratio at the superposition transmission (4).
