Provided is a plate member position detection device capable of accurately detecting the position of a plate member on the uppermost layer, which is the object to be suspended, from among stacked plate members. When the uppermost steel plate among the stacked steel plates (plate members) is suspended by a crane (1), an image of the stacked steel plates including the entire uppermost steel plate is acquired by an image acquisition unit (5). Next, the position of the uppermost steel plate is detected by comparing the template information of the uppermost steel plate with the image, whereby the position of the uppermost steel plate to be suspended can be accurately detected even if steel plates having a small plate thickness are stacked. Particularly, under the condition that the uppermost layer of steel plate is adsorbed and suspended by utilizing an adsorption mechanism such as a lifting magnet (2), the stability of the adsorbed and suspended steel plate can be ensured.
