The invention relates to the technical field of operation machinery, and provides a crane and an additional counterweight loading and unloading method. The crane comprises a rotary table, a main variable-amplitude mast and a supporting part; the first end of the main variable-amplitude mast is rotationally connected to the first side of the rotary table, and the second end of the main variable-amplitude mast is connected with a main variable-amplitude oil cylinder; the supporting component is arranged on the second side of the turntable; the main variable-amplitude mast is suitable for rotating between a first position and a second position, and in the first position, the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder is located on the first side of the rotary table; and at the second position, the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder is located on the second side of the rotary table, and the additional balance weight mechanism is connected to the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder through the supporting component. The main variable-amplitude mast is rotated to the second position from the first position, the additional balance weight mechanism is connected to the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder through the supporting component, and the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder serves as power for lifting of the additional balance weight mechanism; therefore, the main variable-amplitude oil cylinder of the crane is used as an additional counterweight lifting power source, an existing lifting oil cylinder structure can be omitted, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
