The intersection collision avoidance system determines a direction indicated by its turn signal, its destination setting, or both for the self-vehicle, uses a High Definition (HD) map and direction to generate a potentially intended path relative to the intersection if the direction is determined, and generating a possible intent path using the HD map and the destination settings in the event the destination settings are determined. In a case where both the direction and the destination setting are determined, the direction indicated by the turn signal is compared with possible intent paths generated using the destination setting, and one of the possible intent paths is selected based on the comparison. The system transmits a set of driving targets relative to the intersection for the self-vehicles conforming to the intent path to a collision detection module. The module may use the driving goals to determine possible collisions with other road users.
