Systems and methods are provided for detecting and mitigating unclassified hazards of a driver assistance system of a vehicle. The system includes: a data storage device including map data; one or more sensors configured to generate sensor data indicative of one or more sensing objects in the vicinity of the vehicle; and a controller configured, by one or more processors thereof: to receive map data and sensor data; filtering the sensor data to ignore at least one of the sensed objects located outside a boundary area, the boundary area including a portion of an adjacent lane contiguous with a current lane in which the vehicle is operating; determining whether there is an unclassified hazard in an adjacent lane; and in response to determining that there is an unclassified hazard in the adjacent lane, keeping the vehicle operating in the current lane.
