Systems, computer readable media, and methods for navigation correction for extreme wind in autonomous drones are disclosed. Extreme wind may be a special problem for small autonomous drones because the safety and retrieval of the autonomous drones are important, and the autonomous drones typically have limited thrust and battery. An autonomous drone that detects and corrects a flight plan when extreme wind is detected is disclosed. The autonomous drone determines whether to return to an origin location, typically a location of a user of the autonomous drone, or to land in place based on the severity of the extreme wind. If the extreme wind fades, the autonomous drone returns to its original flight plan at a point where the autonomous drone is blown away from the course by the extreme wind. The autonomous drone detects extreme wind either directly or inferred by accidental movement of the autonomous drone via sensor data.
