The invention provides a vehicle self-adaptive cruise control method and device based on exhaust braking. The method comprises the following steps: determining driving data of an own vehicle and driving data of a front vehicle, and determining an actual longitudinal distance between the own vehicle and the front vehicle based on the driving data of the own vehicle and the driving data of the front vehicle; according to the driving data of the own vehicle, the driving data of the preceding vehicle and the actual longitudinal distance, the expected acceleration of the own vehicle is determined; and determining a corresponding target output torque according to the expected acceleration, and controlling the vehicle to run according to the target output torque. According to the method, the economical efficiency, comfort and safety of vehicle driving are improved.
