The invention discloses an electronic mechanical brake and a working method thereof. The electromechanical brake may include: a gear configured to provide power for braking when rotating in one direction and provide power for releasing a braking state when rotating in another direction, the gear having one or more grooves; a stopper housing; a stopper coupled to the stopper housing so as to be pivotable between a first position and a second position, the stopper not restricting rotation of the gear at the first position, and the stopper engaging with the groove and restricting rotation of the gear at the second position; an actuator that pivots the stopper from the first position to the second position; and an elastic member configured to press the stopper in a direction from the second position toward the first position.
