The present invention relates to an emergency braking device (102) for a rotatable reel (104) of a winch (102), the emergency braking device comprising: a braking unit (108) configured to decelerate the reel (104) when a translational force acts on the braking unit (108); an engagement unit (110) rotatable about and linearly movable along the axis of rotation (106) and configured to engage with an engagement profile (400) of the reel (104) in an activated state of the emergency braking device (102) in order to transmit rotation of the reel (104) to the engagement unit (110); and a closure unit (112) having a thread (114) and a connection structure (116) by means of which the closure unit (112) and the engagement unit (110) are connected so as to be rotationally fixed and linearly movable along the axis of rotation (106), and wherein the thread (114) engages with a mating thread (118), and wherein the engagement unit (110) and the closure unit (112) are connected so as to be rotationally fixed and linearly movable along the axis of rotation (106). A linear movement of the closing unit (112) in the direction of the brake unit (108) is effected by a rotation transmitted from the engagement unit (110) to the closing unit (112) in order to exert a translational force on the brake unit (108).
