The invention provides a main hoisting mechanism control method for a bridge crane and a dam gantry crane, which is characterized by comprising the following steps of: (1) initializing data, and setting the highest safe operation height HGIS, the operation direction and the lowest safe operation height DHIS of a main hoisting mechanism; (2) lifting parameters are obtained in real time, wherein the lifting parameters comprise the real-time height position of the main lifting mechanism, the included angle between the running direction of the position where the main lifting mechanism is located and the running direction of the main lifting mechanism, and the ratio of the average running speed of the main lifting mechanism in the running direction to the running speed of the position where the main lifting mechanism is located; (3) according to the hoisting parameters obtained in real time in the step (2), the running direction of the main hoisting mechanism and the running speed of the position where the main hoisting mechanism is located are judged; and (4) according to the judgment result of the step (3), the running direction of the main hoisting mechanism and the running speed of the position where the main hoisting mechanism is located are determined, and the running position of the main hoisting mechanism is controlled.
