The invention relates to an external hanging type tower crane self-climbing device which is hung on a tower crane beside a building structure and comprises a bearing mechanism arranged at the bottom of the tower crane and used for being detachably connected to the building structure; the at least two movable attachment mechanisms are vertically arranged on the tower crane in a sleeving mode, the movable attachment mechanisms are arranged above the bearing mechanism, and the movable attachment mechanisms are used for being detachably connected to a building structure and can vertically move along the tower crane; the lifting mechanism is arranged between the movable attachment mechanism and the bearing mechanism, and the lifting mechanism can adjust the distance between the bearing mechanism and the movable attachment mechanism; through cooperation of the bearing mechanism fixedly arranged at the bottom of the tower crane, the moving attachment mechanism capable of vertically moving along the tower crane and the lifting mechanism connected with the bearing mechanism and the moving attachment mechanism, vertical lifting of the tower crane on the outer vertical face of the building structure is achieved, welding and cutting of the tower crane are not needed, and accurate control over lifting of the tower crane is improved.
