The present application relates to a unit and a method for defining a passable space for an autonomous vehicle, the unit configured to operate during travel of the autonomous vehicle relative to a target location in a parking lot, comprising: an acquisition module configured to acquire a cloud of obstacle points and pose information of the autonomous vehicle and pose information of the target location; the barrier-free channel limiting module is configured to initially set the directions and the positions of two first opposite straight edges, change the positions of the two first opposite straight edges and determine the positions of two second opposite straight edges orthogonal to the two first opposite straight edges; the two first opposite straight edges and the two second opposite straight edges jointly define a barrier-free channel with a first area; and a passable space defining module configured to identify an obstacle point cloud proximate to the barrier-free lane around the barrier-free lane as a boundary obstacle point cloud, and to define a passable space for the autonomous vehicle having a second area, the second area being greater than the first area.
