This document describes techniques and systems for identifying and selecting parking spaces using a radar-centric occupancy grid (RCOG) map. An example system includes a processor that may identify available parking spaces near a host vehicle using sensor data, including a radar occupancy grid (ROG) map. Parking space characteristics for each available parking space are also determined using the sensor data. The processor may then determine a selected parking space based on the parking space characteristics. The processor or another processor may then control operation of the primary vehicle using an aided driving or autonomous driving system and based on the parking space characteristics to park the primary vehicle in the selected parking space. In this manner, the described system may identify, select, and navigate to parking spaces using an RCOG map without relying on infrastructure sensors or passing empty parking spaces.
